Empire State of Mine

Birthday, it's ya birthday

"Alexa... please play Whodini- Friends."

About a month ago I embarked on a MINI trip to New York. Normally, I go out there to meet up with my family or maybe a concert, but this time around was a special occasion becauseeeeee *drumroll* it was my friends birthday!

I met this young lady at work some years back. Our friendship blossomed from just being work pals to a genuine friendship, so of course I was happy to be apart of the festivities because we all know that sometimes it can be challenging to mix different sets of friends (childhood, school, work, etc). The birthday plans were from Saturday until Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, I could only do the Saturday events because I had to be back to Delaware for an event in Philly (Henny & Waffles check out first blog post) that started around 1:30p.m.

Saturday started a little rough for me because I stayed up all night doing a crotchet hairstyle I found on Instagram. Then our stupid Greyhound bus never showed up! My friend and I were pissed off, especially her because we had an itinerary to keep. Luckily for us the bus station is directly across the street from the train station so we were able to purchase Amtrak tickets last minute. Sadly, the tickets were not at a discounted price 😞.

After getting pass that bump in the road we made it to the LIRR Station were we meet up with her friends from back home. We grab some food and then made our way to our hotel room. We went to the Museum of Sex, Tao Downtown, and Skyroom NYC on Saturday.

Museum of Sex

So we brought tickets to check out this museum since the Rose Mansion was sold out. (FYI if you haven't already go buy tickets to Rose Mansion you will not be disappointed!) Their gift shop is right when you first walk in they have vibrators (which I went to first cause I wanted to check out the We-Vibe line) , condoms, candies, and even a photo booth to name a few things. The kiosk to get your wrist band is straight in the back and down stairs are the restrooms which I happened to drop my freakin' cellphone in their toilet!  #annoyedasf

The tour takes you on different levels of the building and in different rooms. They have tons of pornography playing, articles and pictures on the walls. Definitely a lot to take in but intriguing nonetheless. We did notice afterwards that the information this museum provides lacks diversity.

During the time that we went they also had tickets that you could purchase separately to jump in the boob bounce house and to watch a movie in their interactive theater. The boob bounce only allowed up to three people at once. It was a small area and you only get 2-3 minutes of jumping time per group.

Before hitting up our next location we went back to the room to freshen up and pre-game. Then we headed back out to EAT!!!!

Tao Downtown

There are two locations however, the downtown location in New York is where its at! The décor inside the restaurant was so on point. The lighting however is a little dim which sucks for picture taking but I loved the feel it gives. Prior to this I did look up the menu so I already had an idea of what I was ordering. (I balls on a budget!!) We were able to bring in our own bottle of champagne which was very nice. The wait staff was decent and they sat us next to the dj and hall entrance that took you to the area where the bathrooms are. The DJ played some good songs. Overall I thought the food I had was good and all the rest of the ladies food looked good as well.

Then we made our way to.......

Sky Room NYC

So we already had a section reserved for us and we were able to bring our outside cupcakes (which were bomb) in the club with us. We did not have to wait in a line however they did make us check in one of the bags that we had because it was "too big." They also made a big freaking deal about some of us having on slides/sandals which is crazy because we watched numerous females walk pass our section with slides and flats on the entire time.

You have to take an elevator to the club. As soon as you walk off the elevator you walk into this room which I believe had a bar, but don't quote me on that.

The package that we got with our section included 12 drink tickets and two appetizer trays. Listennnn the food on the trays was lukewarm! Then when we did say something it took them forever to rectify the situation. I wish the management there would have been more proactive. Our table host was nice. We did not venture out to the outside balcony area that they have but we did go upstairs where the dj was playing. Upstairs was tight and narrow so I'm glad we were on the lower level where there was more space and air to breathe.

There's me on the left! The birthday gal is also to the left in the back

We did end up leaving before the party was over. I didn't mind leaving early at all because I had to get up in a couple hours to catch the Chinese Bus. I decide not to take Greyhound because of the lack of customer service and the run around they gave me just to get a refund! I even took it to the Twitter streets with no luck 😠.

Besides the bus issue and my phone dropping in a public toilet, I had a great time celebrating with these ladies. Everyone was nice and there were no issues at all which is always a plus when merging friend groups.

I encourage you all to check out these locations for yourself.

Until next time ✌
